MOUNT HOREB AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT

Renovation & Addition

The Mount Horeb Area School District project involved 90,500 square feet of additions and 31,000 square feet of renovations for the high school and consisted of new classrooms, academic space, and cafeteria. A majority of the new addition was created to support STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) curriculum, while a new cafeteria was also constructed. The STEAM specific classrooms included a new auto/engine shop, woodworking shop, ceramics classroom, art commons area, science, biology and chemistry labs, and math rooms. The high school also expanded the cafeteria with a 2-story glass clerestory window overlooking the soccer field, expanded the kitchen and servery area, and constructed a large greenhouse, collaboration space, two courtyards, skylights, and several glass curtain walls that emit natural light into the school. The exterior on the new addition features brick, metal panels, and decorative composite inlays. Renovations to the school include locker rooms, administrative offices, a commons area, and classrooms for family & consumer education, health, and foreign language. To support the new addition and renovation, the building’s electrical systems were upgraded. During the renovation, Kraemer Brothers utilized asbestos abatement firms to safely remove the asbestos before remodeling the area.

Kraemer Brothers continued to assist the district with upgrading and modernizing facilities by completing a total roof replacement project, all possible through cost savings achieved by Kraemer Brothers for the district on the previous project – a great and uncommon accomplishment in today’s construction industry.

CULVER COMMUNITY PARK

Park & Recreation Area

In 2020, Kraemer Brothers was selected to build the new Culver Community Park in Prairie du Sac. The idea for this large scale community park began in 2010 when a group of local individuals came together with a dream to bring a community park and recreation center to Sauk Prairie. The vision was to build a destination community park that will help enrich the lives of the people of Sauk Prairie.

A part of the Culver Community Park, the North Shelter Building is the first building constructed in the overall plan. Designed for year-round use, this facility will feature a large community room, restrooms, offices, walk-in coolers, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, concession area and storage rooms. Outside the building, there are multiple walk-out patios leading to exterior seating, picnic tables, and walking trails. The exterior of the building is constructed of cedar lap siding with stone veneer surrounding the base of the pergola and canopy column supports. This building is a start to a long-lasting impact on the community.

The entire complex will provide reception, meeting and field space for outdoor weddings, reunions, corporate events, and athletic tournaments, as well as recreational amenities for all ages. The design of Culver Community Park calls for various playscapes, event building, garden, fishing pond, multi-purpose outdoor event and competition space, sand volleyball courts, two baseball fields, two softball fields, batting cage, sledding hill, walking trails, pickleball and tennis courts, skatepark, basketball courts, dog exercise areas, and an ice skating rink. The entire park will encompass 67 acres and will be completed in phases.

SYSCO

Fueling Station, Truck Wash & Office Renovation

Kraemer Brothers’ relationship with foodservice giant, Sysco, started in 1988 with a freezer addition and subsequent warehouse and cooler space soon after. In 2008 Sysco brought Kraemer Brothers back in to reconstruct a 57,500 square foot warehouse after a snow load collapsed the room. Our most recent project started in 2019, when Sysco needed a 12,600 square foot remodel of existing meeting rooms. Consisting of two meeting rooms, storage space, and restrooms, the new floorplan adds functionality to an existing open space. One conference room can be subdivided into four meeting rooms that utilizes folding room partitions. In Sysco’s maintenance facility, a phased project for a fuel island and wash bay started. The first phase consisted of constructing a new fueling station double the size of the original. This 3,500 square foot station accommodates two trucks and includes above ground tanks. Phase two removed the original fuel island and built a 6,800 square foot truck wash facility in its place, including two manual wash bays and one automatic drive-through wash.

Healthcare Clinic Renovations

We are renovating 4,200 square feet of the existing space at Richland Hospital to accommodate the new USP Pharmacy regulations involving handling of hazardous drugs, new requirements for air changes and hoods in chemotherapy mixing rooms, and dramatically more stringent regulations for the handling and storage of all drugs in general. Phases 1 and 2 were completed in August 2019, and involved conversion of the existing space into the new Central Supply. The space vacated by the old Central Supply is being converted into the first portion of the new Pharmacy in Phase 3.

The new Pharmacy will be more than double in size of their existing one. Final completion will be in April 2020. Kraemer Brothers brought a hospital-savvy team to this project combining decades of hospital renovation experience. That level of expertise was needed to overcome the scheduling and phasing challenges in keeping an operating pharmacy in business 24-7 with construction occurring all around.

Catholic Church Addition

Construction of this 12,000 square foot addition to the historic St. Clare of Assisi church in Monroe, WI took a high-level of masonry expertise to match the brick and stonework exterior of the original church, which was built in 1892 from native limestone. The new space includes a gathering area, accessible restrooms, a kitchenette, multipurpose rooms, staff offices, meeting rooms, and a covered entry portico with room for multiple car drop-offs. Exposed wooden beams, decorative pendant lighting, large glass windows, and acoustical wall panels can be found inside the church’s gathering space. The basement features an expanded fellowship hall, youth ministry meeting spaces, classrooms with partition dividers, and a kitchen addition. Keeping the historic significance of the church, existing stained-glass windows were preserved and modified as part of the connection to the new addition. The exterior also consists of ornate masonry designs, decorative pinnacles, and white flashing, all which resemble elements from the existing church. This was also the first church in the Diocese to incorporate initiatives to improve accessibility. With both weekday and weekend activities, the construction schedule was unique and built around keeping services at their normal dates and times.

SPRINGHILL SUITES

Hotel

The Springhill Suites by Marriott project is located in the heart of the well-established Hilldale neighborhood in Madison, WI. This mixed-use development is a 12-story structure, containing 182 guest rooms, single floor office plan, and two levels of parking. The building has a stunning exterior façade including brick, metal panel, glass/aluminum curtain wall and EIFS. The building interior has high quality modern finishes and featured amenities including: lobby bar and lounge, exercise and pool facilities, multiple meeting spaces, and heated parking.

As an urban infill project, the site poses numerous challenges due to the proximity of adjacent buildings and steep grades. The building encompasses nearly the entire site, so placement of equipment and materials is complex and requires careful staging and planning.

An example of groundbreaking technology that Kraemer Brothers has employed on this project is the CorTek™ System. This system has allowed us to prefabricate stair towers and elevator shafts off-site, again resulting in a more efficient process and higher quality control.

From the Client

Congratulations to Kraemer Brothers for building another outstanding Marriott Hotel in the Raymond Management portfolio. Springhill Suites was built and delivered within our schedule and budget. The hotel quality and attention to detail was delivered to the highest standard. Hotel openings are a challenging process. Your field supervision did a great job of communication with the hotel staff and brand representatives. We are very proud to operate such a high-quality hotel in the Madison market.

Dairy Manufacturing & Yogurt Production Facility

This dairy manufacturing project involved a 20,000-square-foot interior remodel to convert existing spaces for Schreiber Foods occurring over a nine month period while yogurt production, packaging and distribution were in operation.
A 24-foot tall, 5,600-square-foot, insulated metal panel tank room was constructed inside an existing building, as well as thousands of square feet of remodeling in other areas. The superstructure of the tank room consisted of welded stainless steel tubes, and the underground plumbing system required excavations up to 16-feet deep.

Approximately 10,000 square feet of concrete floors were demolished and replaced. Over 10,000 square feet of vitreous tile was installed over new and existing floors.

We performed a complete gut and remodel of the tank/vat room, filter room, fill room, packaging room and process room. This work was performed in conjunction with the owner’s process piping contractor all using CMP (clean management practices).

Other accomplishments include the shoring and reinforcing an old concrete deck; installing three massive, 8-foot-tall, sixty-foot-long structural steel trusses inside the existing building; constructing several steel structures to support an existing and four new, very large and heavy (21-25’ long) RTU’s (roof top units); pouring over 300 cubic yards of concrete; installing a 5,000-square-foot roof infill to mitigate snow load, and providing $3 million in specialty stainless steel piping and HVAC systems, all in less than 5 months.

In 2022 Kraemer Brothers returned to Schreiber Foods’ West Plant in Richland Center to build out a 2,000 square foot blast cooler addition. Schreiber Foods was able to remain fully operational during the remodeling process.
