Another Milwaukee Hotel

When Kraemer Brothers constructed the Hilton Garden Inn – Milwaukee Airport for a valued client in 2010 we were told to expect to return and build a second hotel on the adjoining property. In May, almost five years after completing the HGI, we will break ground for a Home 2 extended stay hotel there. The site is ready and waiting. While we were there five years ago we demolished a building in preparation for the would-be project that will be constructed from May to February of next year. The project will be a three-story, wood frame hotel with 100 rooms, an indoor swimming pool, kitchen and 63,000 square feet in total, with an exterior facade including burnished block, EIFS, metal panels and cement board siding. It will be our 29th hotel project for our long-time client.

Office Building & cGMP Facility

Since 1988, we’ve partnered steadily with Promega, helping them create many timeless buildings on their Fitchburg campus. Many see this new cGMP manufacturing facility as the crowning achievement of Kraemer Brothers’ 25-year relationship. Working in tandem with internationally accredited design and engineering partners, our award-winning construction crews made sure the 306,000-square-foot building and 300 car parking structure were built with exceptional devotion to detail. The mechanical, electrical and process systems are among the most sophisticated ever constructed in Wisconsin. Utilizing 63 geothermal wells and a large solar array, these sustainable energy sources heat and cool the building while also supplementing domestic hot water demand. Glulam beams, CLT panels, architectural woodwork, and a living plant wall provide an inviting atmosphere in the client center, while elaborate MEP systems power the cGMP facility. Focusing on manufacturing, quality testing, and research & development, this building offers flexibility and growth for future build-outs, remodels, and renovations.  This unique facility features stunning exterior masonry and glazing systems and high quality interior finishes in this world-class architectural gem.

Poconos Phase II in the Works

Kraemer Brothers is hunkering down for another two years in the Pocono Mountains for our valued client, Kalahari Resorts. This spring our crew will commence building an additional nine-story hotel and doubling the existing waterpark. Phase II means crews will be building onto an occupied resort, as guests begin arriving at the 732,000-square-foot Kalahari resort in July after the 21-month project is completed in late June. In the spring of 2017 Kraemer Brothers will have spent four years at the site for Kalahari and doubled the resort since beginning Phase I. The success of this adventure would not be possible without the the hard-working contractors and suppliers of Eastern Pennsylvania who have contributed to the success of this project, and Kraemer Brothers tips its hardhat to all involved.

FOREST PRODUCTS LABORATORY

National Research Laboratory

The Forest Products Laboratory in Madison, Wisconsin, a world-renowned research facility, has been on the cutting edge of scientific research into wood and wood products for one hundred years. When it came time for FPL to construct its new state-of-the art research laboratory, the US Forest Service (the Owner) and the US Army Corps of Engineers (the Owner’s construction manager) selected Kraemer Brothers as the contractor, due to our long and successful track record in the construction of bio-tech research facilities in the Madison area.

The 90,000-square-foot project includes an Engineering Mechanics Laboratory, where large scale structural tests can be conducted; a Wood Pressurization Testing Laboratory, where new pressure treatment technologies can be developed and tested; a Weather Simulation Laboratory, where testing of samples can be accomplished by simulating a vast array of constantly varying weather conditions; unconditioned storage space; and administration offices.

Built to a LEED Silver standard and Army Corp Quality Control standards, the building is constructed of decorative precast concrete exterior wall panels, and a laminated wood roof structure. In keeping with the FPL’s mission, a substantial number of large, laminated wood beams, some more than 5 feet deep, support laminated wood decking in a large portion of the building, while the remaining roof area is supported by engineered wood joists and plywood decking. The two-story administration wing is constructed of a conventional composite steel joist and deck system. Under the guidance of a three-person Kraemer Brothers on-site management team, this research and development facility’s mission is to make the most out of the planet’s limited natural resources.

Municipal Building

The Kilbourn Public Library project in Wisconsin Dells, WI was a 14,130 square foot addition to a 10-year old existing structure with a highly irregular building footprint. This addition included expanding the reading areas and collections, adding a second circulation desk, and the construction of a program room. Matching the existing building seamlessly, the exterior of the building includes brick veneer, clad wood windows, EIFS, and a metal roof. Unique to this project, the impressive cupola with a 32-foot high interior ceiling models the cupola on the existing building. We also performed a 6,000 square foot basement excavation which included shoring and removal of old building foundation from previous structure, rock removal and micro-piles. Reducing energy usage, geothermal wells providing the heating and cooling to the building, while large glass windows bring in natural light to the children’s collection section. A rain garden, new sidewalks added to a new main entrance and street were part of the landscaping renovations. The Kilbourn Public Library was able to remain operational during construction.

Solar Energy Industry

Manufacturing of specially designed glass panels for the solar energy industry is what this 165,000-square-foot facility was designed and built for. One feature is an enormous furnace for the glass-making process, with robotic units to handle product. The building also includes open warehouse and office space. A 22-foot, 141,000-cubic-yard site cut was necessary during the sitework stage.
